Six Placer County-managed parking lots in Kings Beach will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday for sealing and restriping. The lots are expected to reopen Friday morning, and vehicles left behind may be towed.
Measure P is officially on the November ballot. The proposal would renew TTUSD’s expiring $148 annual school parcel tax with a $40 increase for nine years. Arguments for or against the measure are due Friday at 5 p.m.
A major new youth center is coming to Incline Village. The Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe plans to build an early-learning center for children as young as six weeks and a teen center for grades 6–12.
Expect a hot, sunny, and dry week, with Truckee highs ranging from 88°F to 90°F through Saturday before easing slightly Sunday.
It is a big weekend for boats, beer, music, and trail running. The Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance runs Friday and Saturday, Brews, Jazz & Funk celebrates its 25th anniversary Saturday, and the Marlette and Spooner Lake races take place Sunday.

Boatworks Mall Heads to Auction
Two of Tahoe City’s largest commercial properties face uncertain futures at the same time.
Boatworks Mall is scheduled for public auction in Roseville on August 12 after owner MJD Capital Partners defaulted on its $14 million loan. Tenants told Moonshine Ink they received little information from the owner about the foreclosure, while the building has experienced vacant storefronts and reduced maintenance.
Jake’s on the Lake still plans to close in October after 48 years unless a new owner presents a compelling path forward.
Next door, the former Safeway building has remained vacant since last October. The property is reportedly being offered with a deed restriction preventing another grocery store from operating there, despite interest from other grocers.
Kings Beach Parking Lots Close Tuesday Through Friday
All six Placer County-managed parking lots in Kings Beach will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, for sealing and restriping. They are expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Friday, August 7.
The closure includes the West End, Rainbow, Brook Avenue, Christmas Tree, Minnow Avenue, and Salmon Avenue lots. Vehicles must be removed before the closure begins or may be towed.
Visitors and employees should allow extra time, find alternative parking, or use transit. A dedicated TART Connect vehicle is serving downtown Kings Beach between the Safeway parking lot and Beaver Street.
Measure P Placed on November Ballot
Voters throughout the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District will see Measure P on the November 3 ballot.
The measure would renew the district’s expiring $148 annual parcel tax with a $40 increase for nine years, plus annual inflation adjustments. It is expected to generate approximately $7 million annually for programs, teachers, class sizes, and career preparation.
Measure P requires approval from two-thirds of voters. Arguments for and against the measure are due to the Placer County Elections Office by 5 p.m. Friday, August 7.
New Youth Center Planned for Incline Village
The Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe is planning a major expansion in Incline Village after receiving two buildings, renovation funding, and operational support from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.
The new Duffield Center for Great Futures will include year-round early childhood care for infants as young as six weeks through age 5, plus a teen center for students in grades 6–12. Early plans for the teen space include a fabrication lab, e-gaming area, digital journalism studio, and café.
Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with the goal of serving local families by early 2028.
Coldstream Canyon Restoration Is Underway
The Truckee River Watershed Council has started work on the Coldstream Canyon Lower Floodplain Restoration project along Cold Creek, just east of Donner Lake.
The project will reconnect approximately 1,600 feet of creek with its floodplain, create 3.2 acres of floodplain habitat, and restore another 1.9 acres of riparian habitat. The work is intended to reduce erosion, improve water quality, and create better habitat for native plants and wildlife.
The nearby Legacy Trail will remain open, although temporary traffic control may be needed. Work is expected to finish this fall.
TDPUD Prepares for New Water Conservation Rules
Truckee Donner Public Utility District has launched a community conservation campaign ahead of new statewide water-efficiency requirements that take effect January 1, 2027.
The state’s residential indoor target is 47 gallons per person per day, along with reductions in outdoor irrigation. Compliance will be measured across the community rather than household by household, with no individual monitoring or fines.
TDPUD is also developing new conservation rebates and encouraging residents to replace traditional lawns, repair leaks, and use more efficient irrigation.
