Hi everyone, happy Fourth of July week. We’ve got cooler weather, fire season reminders, power outage prep, a packed holiday event calendar, Tahoe City fireworks, Incline Village Local Heroes events, Truckee music, beach cleanups, and the usual summer mix of traffic, parking, and lake logistics.
Let’s dive in!
📰 This Week at a Glance
Cooler weather is settling in after a cold front. NWS Reno is pointing to a cooler pattern this week.
Fire season prep should be a focus this week. TDPUD is urging customers to prepare for wildfire safety power outages that could last hours or several days.
Truckee Fire awarded more than $418,000 in Measure T Community Wildfire Prevention Grants, supporting five local wildfire resilience projects.
Lake Tahoe officials say six boats have already been caught trying to launch illegally without proper inspection. Golden mussels remain one of the biggest practical lake threats this summer, so clean, drain, and dry everything.

🏔️ Local News & Community Updates
TDPUD Urges Wildfire Outage Preparation
With wildfire season underway, Truckee Donner Public Utility District is asking residents and visitors to prepare for potential wildfire safety power outages that could last hours or several days.
Even if we are not in a major heat wave, wind and dry fuels can still create utility-related fire risk. This is a good week to check backup batteries, flashlights, medications, garage door access, refrigerator plans, and household communication plans.
Truckee Fire Funds Five Wildfire Prevention Projects
Truckee Fire approved $418,853 in Measure T Community Wildfire Prevention Grants for five local projects, with matching funds bringing the total investment to more than $554,000.
Projects include deck hardening, fuel reduction planning, and forest fuels work across 60-plus acres in Ponderosa Palisades.
Golden Mussel Inspections Are Working, But Close Calls Continue
Tahoe officials say six boats have already been caught attempting to launch illegally this summer without proper inspection seals. Inspectors have also intercepted boats carrying golden mussels before they could launch in Tahoe.
Golden mussels threaten Tahoe’s water quality, beaches, recreation economy, and shoreline infrastructure. Motorized boats need inspection and decontamination, and everyone with paddleboards, kayaks, inflatables, fishing gear, and beach gear should check Tahoe boat inspection rules and clean, drain, and dry before entering the lake.

📌 Community Alerts & Reminders
Power outage prep should be on your list. TDPUD is warning customers to prepare for wildfire safety power outages that could last hours or several days. Check flashlights, backup batteries, medications, refrigerator plans, and household communication plans.
Clean, drain, and dry your gear. Tahoe’s inspection program has already caught illegal launch attempts and intercepted golden mussels this summer. This applies to boats, kayaks, paddleboards, inflatables, fishing gear, and anything else that touches the water.
Parking enforcement will be tight. Fourth of July week is not the time to gamble on illegal parking near beaches, trailheads, or downtown cores.
Fire restrictions are in effect. Truckee Fire’s regional burn ban remains an important summer signal. No wood-burning backyard fires, campfires, or charcoal grills in the Truckee area. Gas devices are generally still allowed unless stricter red flag restrictions are in place.
Obviously, no fireworks ever.
