Sunnyside is preparing for a six-month renovation, with an October closure and a projected April 2027 reopening under new restaurant operator Local Food Group.

Downtown parking changes go before Town Council today
Truckee is proposing a consolidated set of Downtown Parking District rules, updating maps, permits, and policies that haven’t been comprehensively refreshed since the district was established in 2005. The proposal would keep Value Zone parking at $1 an hour, raise Priority Zone parking to $2.50 an hour, and establish an overnight parking permit program.
Help shape Truckee’s walking and biking network
The Town is developing a new Active Transportation Plan to guide future investments in walking, biking, trails, and other ways of getting around without a car. Residents can take the public survey or apply for one of seven community seats on the stakeholder committee. Statements of interest are due Friday, September 18.
Truckee candidate forums announced for October
The 2026 candidate forums will take place at Truckee Town Hall on October 6 and 8, with free admission and broadcasts available. The first evening covers Measure P, TTUSD, TDPUD, and Truckee Fire; the second covers Town Council, Tahoe Forest Hospital District, TDRPD, and Sierra College. Submit questions to Jessica Penman by September 25.
Sunnyside outlines its next chapter
Sunnyside’s renovation plans include improvements to the lodge, expanded private dining space, and a larger kitchen. Mark Estee’s Local Food Group will take over restaurant operations, while property ownership remains unchanged. The remodel is expected to begin in October and take about six months, with reopening projected for April 2027. For anyone worried about menu changes: the fried zucchini is staying.

Zenergy adds a new lounge in Truckee
Zenergy Massage & Wellness has opened its Zensory Lounge & Spa at 11836 Donner Pass Road. The space offers infrared sauna, red light, salt, and sound experiences, with private sessions for individuals and groups of up to six. It also features a forest-inspired mural by local artist Amanda-Lynn.
Solar savings program opens for eligible NV Energy customers
Applications for NV Energy’s Expanded Solar Access Program are open through October 31. The program gives income-qualified residential customers access to discounted solar energy without installing rooftop panels. Current participants also need to recertify by the deadline. Eligibility details and applications are available through NV Energy.

Chalk Art in the Park, 10 a.m.–3 p.m., North Tahoe Regional Park. Turn a parking space into a masterpiece. Artist registration is $15 for residents or $20 for nonresidents, including chalk and lunch.
U.S. Steinholding Championships Qualifier, 5 p.m., Alibi Ale Works, Truckee. Test your stamina in a steinholding contest benefiting MusicWings, with student performances, a raffle, and live music by The Steel Sparrows. Warmer weather returns through midweek before temperatures drop heading into the weekend. The National Weather Service’s Truckee forecast, updated Tuesday morning, calls for:
Today (Tuesday): Sunny, high 78°F, overnight low 46°F.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, high 83°F, overnight low 47°F.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, high 80°F, overnight low 46°F. Afternoon gusts up to 20 mph.
Friday: Sunny, high 75°F, overnight low 45°F.
Saturday: Sunny and breezy, high 67°F, overnight low 39°F.
Sunday: Sunny, high 66°F, overnight low 40°F.
Truckee’s forecast remains dry. NWS Reno’s regional discussion puts the better Thursday shower chances south of Highway 50 and along the eastern Sierra, with increasing winds later in the week. Pack an extra layer for weekend evenings.
FISHING REPORT
In its latest September 2 report, Four Seasons Fly Fishing reported that cooler water had improved fishing on the Truckee River, with fish responding to several different approaches:
Dry/dropper rigs remained a first choice, with smaller insects keeping fish interested at the surface.
Streamers were getting more attention again, alongside productive nymph fishing.
Timing was changing: cooler mornings could mean a slower early bite, so the earliest start wasn’t necessarily the best.

COMMUNITY ALERTS & REMINDERS
Truckee’s seasonal burn ban remains in effect. Check Truckee Fire’s current restrictions before using outdoor cooking or fire equipment.
Forest Service recreation fee proposals are still open for comment. Review changes for Tahoe and Eldorado national forests and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit through the Forest Service’s interactive map. Comments are due September 29.
Stay connected to local alerts. Use Tahoe Alerts for local emergency notification resources and Watch Duty to monitor wildfire activity.
