Elephant Fire Reaches 92% Containment
The Elephant Fire north of Loyalton and Highway 49 has burned 13,926 acres and is now 92% contained, according to the latest update Sunday evening.

KidZone Breaks Ground on New Truckee Facility
KidZone Museum held a groundbreaking ceremony July 10 for its new 10,000-square-foot facility at Truckee Regional Park.
The expanded museum will include modernized exhibits and immersive spaces designed for children across a broader range of ages and abilities. KidZone currently welcomes approximately 30,000 visitors annually. Read the update
Worm Project Phase 2 Begins Today
The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and IVGID are beginning Phase 2 of the Worm Project, a 113.9-acre wildfire-fuels reduction project above Highway 431 in Incline Village.
Work is expected to continue through September using hand crews and low-impact mastication equipment. Phase 1 covered 62.6 acres and was completed in July 2025. Project details
Olympic Valley Subdivision Receives Approval
Placer County supervisors approved rezoning for the Sierra Family Meadows Subdivision near Olympic Valley Road and Resort Road.
The proposal includes eight single-family homes on lots ranging from approximately half an acre to more than two acres. A conservation easement will protect Washeshu Creek, meadow habitat, and cultural resources. Read more
Two TCPUD Board Seats Are on the Ballot
Two Tahoe City Public Utility District board seats will appear on the November 3 ballot.
Candidates must be registered voters living within the TCPUD boundary. The filing period remains open through August 7 and may be extended through August 12 if an incumbent does not file. Candidate information
Castle Peak Avalanche Responders Recognized
Nevada County supervisors presented certificates of recognition July 14 to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and the 21 agencies involved in the February 17 Castle Peak avalanche response.
Nine people lost their lives in the avalanche, while responders rescued six survivors. Read the recognition
NV Energy Begins Issuing $63 Million in Refunds
NV Energy has begun issuing more than $63 million in refunds related to residential rate-classification errors.

Expect race-related traffic around Donner Lake this weekend. Donner Pass Road and South Shore Drive will have intermittent traffic controls Saturday and Sunday. Road-impact schedule
SR 28 East Shore parking enforcement is active. Roadside parking is prohibited from Sand Harbor south toward the Carson City line. Use designated parking, transit, or trail access points.
