Happy Monday 👋
This week Made in Tahoe returns to the Village at Palisades, Tahoe City is getting into Halloween mode, and Sunday’s community gear swap is a good opportunity to sort out the kids’ ski gear before winter.
There are also a few chances to get involved, from candidate forums to a meeting about the proposed Olympic winter museum. Read on for more!

Hauntober gets going in Tahoe City. Scarecrows on Parade voting opens Tuesday, and the Skeleton Scavenger Hunt starts Friday.

Last week’s Local Spotlight
Coburn Station: 15 Years of Mountain Rock
What started as jam sessions between coworkers has turned into more than 15 years of making music together.
I caught up with my friend Conor McAlindin, Coburn Station’s drummer, to talk about their Mountain Rock sound, why no two shows are the same, and what makes Tahoe such a good place for live music.
Ten days left to reserve a winter desk at The Shack
The winter membership offer at The Shack runs through October 15:
Fixed desk: $300 per month with a six-month commitment, December 1 through May 31.
Flex membership: $180 per month.
A $99 deposit reserves your membership and goes toward your first month. Early reservations also include a complimentary guest day pass.

Local news and community updates
Gar Woods takes a break for renovations
Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay closes Thursday, October 8, for approximately two months while the restaurant refurbishes its floors and updates equipment. The planned reopening is in December.
If it’s one of your regular spots, there are a few days left to stop in before the work begins.
Tahoe recreation sites begin their winter shutdown
Seasonal closures are starting around the basin. Meeks Bay Resort and its campgrounds close October 11, followed on October 12 by sites including William Kent and Kaspian campgrounds, along with several South Shore campgrounds and beach facilities.
These closures affect facilities such as parking areas, gates, and restrooms. National forest land remains open year-round, so walking in may still be an option where you can park legally and keep gates clear. Plan to pack out everything you bring.
Kings Beach cardboard recycling will continue through winter
The free bulk cardboard recycling bin at North Lake Boulevard and Fox Street is staying through winter and into 2027 after a successful summer pilot.
Placer County has expanded snowplowing at the site to help keep it accessible. Bring clean, flattened cardboard only, with no food waste, other recyclables, or trash.
Green waste pickup requests close Sunday
October 11 is the last day to request Truckee Fire’s free curbside green waste pickup. Have your pile ready before submitting the request.
The service accepts eligible woody vegetation, including branches and shrubs. Pine needles, cones, bagged material, and piles created by paid contractors are not accepted.

A few positions added to the Truckee North Tahoe Jobs Collective since last week:
