THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
The Truckee Pro Rodeo returns Thursday through Saturday, beginning with Extreme Bulls and Broncs and an Eli Young Band concert Thursday night. Traditional rodeo performances follow Friday and Saturday.
The Lake Tahoe Triathlon takes place Saturday and Sunday at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park, with sprint, Olympic, half-distance, duathlon, aquabike, and open-water swim events.
The 30th annual Lake Tahoe Summit wrapped up Wednesday at Sand Harbor. Leaders celebrated three decades of restoration work while looking ahead to the lake’s next set of environmental challenges.
Tahoe Forest Health System’s new North Shore Clinic opens Aug. 31 at 3190 Fabian Way in Tahoe City. Urgent care will remain at its current downtown location.
Expect mild, mostly dry weather all week, with Truckee highs near 81°F through Wednesday before cooling into the upper 70s for the weekend.

30th annual Tahoe Summit looks toward the lake’s next chapter
Political leaders, tribal representatives, scientists, environmental organizations, and community members gathered at Sand Harbor last week for the 30th annual Lake Tahoe Summit.
Since the first summit in 1997, more than 80 organizations participating in the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program have completed over 900 projects focused on water quality, wildfire resilience, habitat restoration, transportation, and recreation. Climber Tommy Caldwell delivered this year’s keynote address.
Tahoe Forest opens new North Shore Clinic
Beginning Aug. 31, Tahoe City primary care appointments will move to a newly renovated clinic at 3190 Fabian Way. The facility will have two dedicated primary care providers and a rotating schedule of specialists.
The clinic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is accepting new patients. Tahoe City Urgent Care will remain at 925 North Lake Blvd.
USDA proposes rescinding the national Roadless Rule
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has filed a proposed rule that would rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, which currently restricts road construction and development across more than 44 million acres of national forest land.
The administration says removing the rule would give local forest managers more flexibility to address wildfire risk and forest health. Environmental groups argue that the change could expose undeveloped forests to logging, road building, and industrial activity. Public comments are open through Sept. 21.
New 18-hole disc golf course planned for Truckee
The proposed Polaris Disc Golf Course would be built on Truckee Donner Land Trust property near Old Greenwood and Interstate 80.
The project brings together the Land Trust, Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District, Truckee Recreation and Park Foundation, and the newly formed Truckee Disc Golf Club. The course is still in the design phase, with fundraising and additional planning ahead.
TDPUD prepares Truckee for new water conservation targets
California’s new water conservation regulations take effect Jan. 1, 2027. Compliance will be measured across the entire Truckee community rather than household by household, but failing to meet the target could eventually result in penalties for TDPUD and higher water rates.
Outdoor irrigation represents the largest opportunity for local savings. TDPUD is offering rebates, leak alerts, and landscaping resources, along with a free Community Garden Party Saturday at its conservation garden.
Forest Charter School names a new Truckee site director
Kate Sutton has been selected to lead Forest Charter School’s Truckee campus, succeeding founding site director Janice Eggers. Sutton has 21 years of youth-program experience and has spent the past three years as a supervising teacher at the school.

FISHING REPORT
The Aug. 20 report from Four Seasons Fly Fishing says conditions on the Truckee River remain similar to the past few weeks.
Flows were approximately 282 cubic feet per second above Truckee and 488 cubic feet per second at Boca Bridge when the report was published. Water above Boca has been reaching 67°F to 68°F by noon, while the river below Boca has generally remained cooler until later in the afternoon.
Mornings remain the best time to fish. Carry a thermometer, look for cooler sections, and give the fish a break as water approaches 68°F. Smaller flies, longer leaders, and lighter tippet can help as the season progresses. Midges, small baetis, caddis, dry-dropper rigs, and early-morning streamers are all producing.

COMMUNITY ALERTS AND REMINDERS
Stage 2 fire restrictions remain in effect across Tahoe National Forest.
The Truckee regional burn ban remains active. Wood-burning fires, campfires, and charcoal grills are prohibited. Approved gas devices are allowed.
North Lake Tahoe fire restrictions are also in effect.
Nevada County unsecured property tax bills must be paid by Aug. 31 to avoid penalties.
The Northern Nevada Wildfire Relief Fund is accepting donations to support people and communities affected by the Bug and Stallion fires.
Monitor new fires through Watch Duty and register for local emergency notifications through Tahoe Alerts.
